Do you want to be healthier? Do you want to gain more energy, sleep better and maintain your weight? Believe it or not your body has the ability to heal itself every 28 days. Doesn't that seem like a very short time?
Even with every toxin, bad habit and stress we place on our bodies, it still wants to work hard to be healthy. The key to having a healthy lifestyle is to figure out what works for you. Our bodies are unique in chemical structure and how they respond to foods, exercise and supplements.
While the body is an amazing machine, it is important that we pay attention to what it is telling us. We've been conditioned to believe that as we age our health will decline. That we will need to take pharmaceuticals regularly to be active and alert. Pharmaceuticals are great for short-term use, to get the body back into balance. But over the long-term, the side effects can be worse than the original reason we started taking the drugs.
What signs should you look for to know that your body is telling you to make changes to live a healthy life?
Does any of this sound like you?
👉Diarrhea and/or constipation
👉Bloating and gas
👉Congestion, coughing, wheezing
👉Brain fog, difficulty recalling words, short term memory issues
👉Headaches and migraines
👉Hives and itchy skin
👉Acne or eczema
👉Tired all the time
👉Can't stand to smell fragrances and chemicals
If so, your body is telling you a change is needed. Something in your lifestyle is making you unhealthy. If you don't work to correct it now, the body will become tired as it tries to maintain balance and fight pathogens. This can lead to illness and disease.

DRINK CLEAN WATER
Water is very important to our bodies since they are 60% water and our blood is 90% water. What you may not realize is that drinking clean water can help you achieve optimal health. Why? Clean water has filtered out the chemicals that is allowed in our tap water by the government.
The NRDC (The National Resource Defense Council) reports that 77 million Americans get their drinking water from systems that violated federal protections put in place in 2015. Plus, there are chemicals that the government doesn't regulate, such as perchlorate and PFOA/PFOS (chemical cousins of Teflon), that is in our water but water companies do not have to report on.
Chemicals in our tap water are allowed by the government at certain levels. Chemicals such as by-products from chlorine treatments (trihalomethanes and haloacetic acids which may cause cancer), nitrates due to fertilizer run-off and pharmaceuticals from people flushing them down the toilet. There are other chemicals that I didn't mention but the end result is these nasty contaminants that are in our water supply can interrupt our bodies natural processes, like hormone production and how our central nervous system works.
As I mentioned, our bodies want to be healthy so they will work hard to fight the contaminants in our water. Buying clean water is how you can help reduce stress on the body while it fights to be healthy. Look for brands that sell water that has been treated via distillation, filtration or reverse osmosis. Some really good brands to look for that have been tested via the NRDC are: Aquafina, Dasani, Smart Water, Arrowhead and Figi.
No healthy living post would be complete without a section on exercise. There is no way around this. A body at rest, stays at rest. But a body that is active has energy. Energy is necessary for your body to take care of itself. The good news is that any movement is good movement.
Maybe you like to play golf. Instead of relying on the cart the entire course, walk a hole or two. Maybe you like listening to audio books. Turn one on and go for a walk outside or on a treadmill. The goal is to do something physical most days for at least 30 minutes. There are plenty of free exercise classes online. Try a variety of them to see what you like.
As always, before you start an exercise routine make sure to check with your doctor to ensure you are physically able to start exercising.
Eating organic is key so you stay away from GMOs and pesticides. GMOs are very damaging to our bodies. GMOs manipulate a gene in fruits and vegetables making them unrecognizable to our bodies. We cannot process the food effectively. The USDA organic certification prohibits GMOs in any of the ingredients used to grow or sell the food. This includes meat.
Eating food grown without modification gives the body food it recognizes and can easily digest. That means you are supporting your body, your organs and key bodily functions with the best food you can. Also, by eating organic food you avoid creating stressors in the body that may result in disease.
Usually when I tell people to eat organic food the first thing they say is it is too expensive. While that may have been true in the past, prices have come down as organic food becomes higher in demand. It is like anything, you have to know your prices. There are plenty of times organic food in the grocery store is less expensive or the same price as conventionally grown food.
Plus, eating organic helps avoid paying future healthcare costs. There are many examples of people who are diagnosed with a disease or sickness and they decide not to take pharmaceuticals. Instead they turn to organic foods for healing. In no time at all, they have either reduced the need for pharmaceuticals or eliminated the disease all-together.
That is the beauty of how our bodies want to be healthy. Given the right nutrition and foods, the body will work in its already established 28 day cycle to heal itself. Now, I am not a doctor and if you are dealing with a serious illness, you may need assistance from pharmaceuticals to help you. What I am suggesting is that along with whatever traditional medical intervention you have decided with your Doctor, try incorporating GMO free foods into the mix. You may be surprised by the results.
If you decide to start practicing one of the three simple ways to live a healthier life, remember to start slow. Your current routine took years to form. You will not be able to break the routine overnight. It takes 21 days to create a new habit, good or bad.
Start by trying one behavior. For example, when you go food shopping look for organic vegetables. Buy those instead of conventionally grown vegetables. But buy all other foods like you normally will. This will help you slowly integrate the routine into your shopping trip. Once that becomes routine, after about 5 to 7 times shopping, start buying organic staples like rice and pasta. Slowly build the new shopping behavior.
Also, the above actions are made to be abandoned every once in awhile. Let's face it, there are going to be times throughout the year where you aren't able to keep up your routine. There are holiday's, family vacations and business trips where you may only be able to do a couple of the activities or none. That is OK! The activities are made easy enough for you to get off your routine and then back on your routine easily.
Do you think you will try to change your routine to include any of the above? Let me know by leaving me a comment below.
