Best Chai Tea Latte

CONFESSION: I used to be one of those people who went to a over-priced coffee chain DAILY for a chai tea latte. I started with the Chai concentrate which is loaded with sugar. Then I started focusing on reducing sugar in my diet due to the inflammation it can cause & switched to a Chai Tea latte with a tea bag. So much better for me without all the added sugar (no - I did not add a pump of vanilla syrup). 

 

Then the chain started having supply issues with the chai tea bags. I mean, COME ON! Chai tea has so many health benefits since it is a combination of black tea and spices. Including:

  • Ginger, which aids digestion

  • Cardamon, which supports the immune system

  • Cinnamon, to help regulate blood sugar*

I started working on how to make my own chai latte at home. Not only did I find it easy to make, there are so many options on the market for chai tea bags, non-dairy milks & inexpensive hand-held frothers, I don't even miss going to the store everyday to buy it already made! Plus, I am saving money & it is healthier for me since I know exactly how it was made. 

 

Below are the steps & products I use to make chai lattes. FYI - if you liked to sweeten the latte, I recommend using raw honey. 

 

PRODUCT OVERVIEW: 

The products I use are Yogi Chai Black Tea bags (spicy!!!), Kirkland Signature Almond Milk, and the Matcha DNA hand frother found on Amazon.

 

  

 STEPS:

  1. Boil water and add to chai tea. How much water depends on how much milk you like in your latte. I like 3/4 cup boiling water to 1/2 cup almond milk.

  2. While the tea is steeping, I usually wait 2 minutes, heat up the almond milk. I usually use the microwave at 1 minute on high for 1/2 cup almond milk.

  3. When almond milk is heated, use the hand frother to foam up the milk. This is when the magic happens! Put the frother in the middle of the almond milk & let it go. Usually 45 seconds to 1 minute for 1/2 cup of almond milk. You'll see the milk start to foam up & get fluffy!

  4. Pour slowly into the chai tea so the milk beneath the foam goes in first. Top the tea off with the foam. 

  5. Yogi Chai tea recommends 7 minutes of steeping their tea for optimal taste. I usually just leave the tea bag in the latte as I drink it. But feel free to steep less if you like your tea less strong.
