3 Tips on how to keep a fitness routine during the holidays

The only way to survive the holidays (in my opinion) is to have a strong fitness program. The kind that if you miss it - you really miss it. I routinely go to classes but also make sure to run once a week, use elliptical machines, or stair master, or walking treadmills, or spin class or yoga and weight lift. This means if I miss a day, I just don't feel like myself, 

 

 

 

But what if you are new to an exercise routine? You may not have the desire to get the gym after the holiday party. There are some tricks to making sure you get a workout during the holiday. Here are some tips. If you try any of them, let me know! Follow my blog on Bloglovin.

 

TIP #1: Participate in a Fun Run/Walk

 

I don't know about you but when I pay for something ahead of time, I am more likely to stick to my commitment. After all, I just spent good money to do something! It is popular for towns to have fun runs/walks around holiday time. Why? Just think about how good you feel after working out and then you have that feeling the rest of the holiday. I know I plan on sneaking out of family gatherings to get in an early morning yoga class! Why not?

 

 

 

TIP #2 Schedule the time

 

If I write something down in my calendar, I am more than likely going to stick to my schedule. Maybe the gym you belong to has a class that works in your schedule. Go take it! Or, if you don't belong to a gym, schedule a bike ride or power walk or run in between your errands. The key is to make the commitment to yourself - then follow through. 

 

 

TIP #3 Don't feel guilty if you can't follow through

 

Let's face it - the long term goal of good health is really why we are active. A few nights of not working out or skipping a class is not going to impact your health UNLESS you don't go back to it EVER. You have to be able to let go when you aren't able to exercise but then recognize you must get back to the routine as soon as you can.
